Alumni Profile: Mark Gordon '00

Company you are currently working at:
New Balance Athletic Shoe

Current job function:
Supply Chain, Sales Planning.  My day-to-day involves overseeing all of the forecasting and inventory management that my department does.  The forecasting includes sales reps for our domestic business as well as our international business around the world.  Hand in hand with the forecasting tasks are those of maintaining service levels by merchandise class by selecting appropriate amounts of inventory.

At the same time, we are undergoing a large supply chain initiative to help us shorten lead times and decrease the amount of lost sales through raw material staging and selective use of air freight.

Education prior to MMM:
BS Industrial Engineering Northwestern Univ.
BS Manufacturing Engineering Northwestern Univ.

Employment prior to MMM:
PricewaterhouseCoopers - IT consultant in the operations group

Positions after MMM:
IBM - Consultant - Business Consulting Services
Demantra - Senior Solution Delivery Manager

Why I chose MMM:
This program uniquely develops skills in operations and business simultaneously.  It is a quantitative, operations focused program grounded in fundamental business concepts.  For anyone looking to get into the operations/supply chain side of the business, both sets of skills are crucial.  Not only is strategy and finance tremendously important, understanding the science behind operations allows me to make decisions and tradeoffs in an informed way.  There is a lot of opportunity to plan and execute well in companies in order to create significant value.
