Nirav Sheth is an Engagement Manager in the Operations Strategy
and Effectiveness Practice, specializing in Product Development.
Nirav joined McKinsey in September 1999 after serving as a summer
associate in 1998. He has served clients in a broad range of industries,
spanning medical devices, data storage hardware, environmental
services, and manufacturing (packaged goods, automotive, telecoms,
and aerospace). Nirav's recent engagements include:
- Building a strategic sourcing function within a union procurement
environment by launching a $200 million sourcing effort and
designing the supporting organizational structure. Nirav developed
sourcing strategies that identified 20-30% purchase price savings
by leveraging global supply opportunities, coordinating spend
from sister divisions of the Fortune 200 parent, and building
Design-to-Cost skills at the client.
- Led a client team at a German-American automotive joint venture
in increasing the IRR of a new transmission technology 20%.
Outcome achieved by improving design producibility, developing
long-term roadmaps to reduce reliance on sourced proprietary
technologies, and designing an organizational infrastructure
to institutionalize the efforts.
- Developed and piloted a strategic review process for a leading
waste management firm. During the pilot, identified long-term
EBIT improvements of $60 million (70%) across three operationally
distinct markets. Levers included improving franchise contract
pricing and selection, operational efficiencies, and service
mix. Process has since been rolled out to all North American
markets and adopted as the corporate-wide annual review mechanism.
In an extension, crafted corporate growth strategy for environmental
services market.
- Led client team in developing ideas and implementation plan
to improve gross revenues by 25% for a power tools manufacturer.
Outcome achieved via:
- Matching feature offerings to target customer segments
- Introduced new product line to attack under-penetrated segment
- Leveraging subsystem commonality to implement a configure-to-order
manufacturing model that reduced inventory needs by 45%
- In addition, Nirav has participated in design and purchasing
cost reduction efforts for companies in the medical device arena
Prior to joining McKinsey, Nirav was a design engineer with
General Electric's Appliances Division where he was a certified
